Outfit of the Day: Miss Fancy Pants Outings

Hello Kittens!

Here are some Outfits of the Day from the weekend before last <3

Outfit of the Day (Saturday):

On Saturday the weekend before last I went out with some friends to celebrate a friend's birthday! We started the night with dinner at a vegan restaurant in Oakland called Millennium then ended the night at a local Oakland brewery called Ale Industries. The food at Millennium was excellent while the beer at Ale Industries was super good and really cheap! It was a fun night out but the best part was the company spent!

For this night I decided to dress up a bit and wore my Trashy Diva black cage dress. I paired this with a black cardigan which I got ages ago in Australia in a small boutique shop. For comfort and ease I wore this with my go to basic black flats while for extra warmth I also wore a pair of nude tights. For a finishing touch I wore a vintage cat brooch gifted to me from a friend and a pair of white floral earrings gifted to me by Trashy Diva as a surprise bonus during a recent purchase <3

Outfit of the Day (Sunday):

On Sunday I went out with a friend to the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco. It was like food for my soul not only going to the modern art museum but also going with a dear friend from high school. It reminded me of when we would go out there during our high school days <3

For this day I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Americana dress in Mini Fleur print. Because it was cold in the city, I paired this with some sweater tights I got from Kohls several years ago and once again my basic black flats for comfort. I had a beige wool overcoat from Target over this while outside but I forgot to take pictures of it.

Dress Review: The Bird's the Word

March of last year Trashy Diva put on a March Madness

Trashy Diva proposed to re-release an older print and put it up to a vote to the fans which one it should be.  They selected a few prints at a time and let them go head to head until they had a winner. Then they repeated it again for another round, and then another (or so) until finally the winners themselves went head to head. It was all good fun. Though I do know emotions ran high for a lot of us who would get emotionally invested in hoping "our" print would win. In the end, it was just a super exciting thing to know that Trashy Diva was officially going to release an older print and that they were even proposing that this would be a annual release which they are dubbing their Heritage Collection. After the fun of March Madness, us Trashy Diva fanatics lovers sat on our hands with bated breaths until the print was to be released in the winter of that year. And so, while this post is, late to the actual release of the long awaited print which came out early January, here is my review of the highly anticipated Love Birds print.

Love Birds is everything I had hoped it would be! It is an amazingly beautiful novelty print of pastel birds, flowers, and flowers in cages on a black background. It is an incredibly dainty print which is girly, feminine, and sophisticated all at the same time. Some ladies that I've heard from who have seen this print in the original silk release from Trashy Diva say that this release of the print is even more beautiful because the pastels are so much richer in color. This print (this second time around) came out in the Hopscotch, Gia, Trixie, 40's, Camilla, and Ruby Mini dresses, sizes are going quickly though!

Watching it from its release, the clear favorite of many was the Hopscotch dress, a gorgeous swing style dress with mandarin collar, cap sleeves, decorative buttons at the bust, and flirty back cut out. But for me, because I told myself I need to start only buying one dress per print (if even that many), and because the colorway of this dress reminded me a lot of the previously released Hourglass print which I already have in the Hopscotch dress previously worn here, I decided to go instead with a new to me cut, the Gia dress.

The Gia dress is a perfect cut for emphasizing the feminine girly-ness of this print. It features a full gathered swing skirt, perfect for twirling in! It also features a flattering though modest v-neckline both in the front and back, as well as cute little puff cap sleeves. For extra convenience and ease of wear this dress also has a hidden back zip and pockets! Like a lot of other prints released this past year by Trashy Diva the Love Birds print comes in a super soft smooth stretch rayon. Also, for those that are so inclined, for this print, Trashy Diva paired with UK jewelry designer Rosita Bonita to create beautiful fun matching pieces to go along with this print which includes brooches, earrings, and two different styles of necklaces which feature either the pink birds or blue birds of the print.

Outfit of the Day: Two outfits over Valentine's and Valentine's day weekend

Hello Kittens

Though this was a while ago, I hope you all had a great Valentine's day.

Over Valentine's day weekend Tim and I went up north to Davis for a friend's birthday. Because it was a long drive up and just a little longer of a drive to get up to the snow I suggested to Tim why not start a little earlier and play a bit in the snow before the party. It ended up being such a fun detour and a great day over the Valentine's day weekend.

Outfit of the Day (Saturday, Valentine's day weekend):

When I was planning on what to wear to the birthday party I knew right away I wanted to wear my Trashy Diva Hopscotch dress in Hourglass! It's got such a great party vibe to me. However, when plans developed and we made decided to also go the snow that day I considered that  perhaps I should wear something else instead. I didn't ponder this long however as I immediately said to myself, "F*** it. Life is short, wear the dress!" And so that is exactly what I did. :)

I paired this dress with a toasty thick black Trashy Diva knit bolero which I got a few months ago from a swap and sell group on facebook, black fleece lined tights which I got last year from Nordstrom Rack, trusty basic black flats (which I changed out of for the snow), and for a finishing touch a pink beret I got from ebay a couple months ago.

Outfit of the Day (Valentine's Day):

Actual Valentine's day fell on a Tuesday this year. I'm not one for putting things off if I can help it so we went out and celebrated on the actual day. Straight after work, I came home and changed into a dress for the occasion and for going out to dinner that night. I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Lupe dress in Forget Me Not floral as for whatever reason that is the dress I was really feeling for the day. It's sweet and elegant without being too fancy or too themey--- though I do surprise myself writing this as I'm usually a sucker for dressing theme!

Anyhow, it was an unusually warm day that day and so I was able to go tightless (finally!) and only needed to wear my super toasty knit Trashy Diva bolero to keep warm that night. As always, when I don't really put much thought into it, I went with my trusty basic black flats. :)

Dress Review: Trashy Diva's Wine Dots

Dots are my solid

I love prints. So much so that I hardly ever wear or buy solid colored dresses. But there comes a time when I just want to wear something more neutral than a super fun novelty print or a feminine floral. So what's a print loving gal to do? Gravitate towards dots! I love how polka dots are fun yet can still be neutral. And Trashy Diva's Wine Dots are a perfect combination of just that-- fun yet neutral. The maroon background with cream color dots reads a bit more like brown when worn-- not that the dress looks brown, but just that that's the color that comes to mind when you see it/wear it in person.

While I loved this print the first time it was released several months back, I initially decided to pass on it because a) I already have this print in the Trashy Diva Ashley blouse from the first run when this print was first released in silk, and also b) let's face it, I have a LOT of dresses and not just a lot of dresses but a lot of polka dot dresses. True, I didn't have a wine dot dress and true, I love Trashy Diva so much, but I was and am still trying to control myself and be a little better with my spending. However, when I saw that Retro Glam was having a boxing day sale that made it possible to snag this dress for 40% off I knew it was too good a deal to pass up! Especially when I figured that with the exchange rate from Canada this dress was already marked lower than it was being sold at Trashy Diva for and shipping was actually cheaper buying from them rather than buying from Trashy Diva directly. Anyway, long story short, I bought it. I don't regret it. And now I have a new dress to review for you all here :)

Initially, if I were to have any pick out of the Wine Dots collection, I would have gone with the Camilla dress. I'm such a sucker for flutter sleeves. However, this was not a dress that was being stocked at Retro Glam so I grabbed it in my second choice instead, the ever trusty 40's dress.

I love Trashy Diva's 40's dresses. They are perhaps on my top three list of favorite cuts by them. They are so easy to throw on and look fabulous without much work or fuss. They feature a flattering a-line skirt, fitted waist, a v neckline at the front and back, and gorgeous ruching at the under bust, shoulders, and back which give the top visual interest without being too overwhelming. Also, they have a back zip which means it's easy to get on. This print came in a lovely soft stretch rayon which many ladies have suggest feels like butter. What I love about this fabric in the 40's dress is that because of the stretch you can really get a perfect fit. Where it used to be with the flat rayon or rayon crepe de chine 40's dresses that the sides at the bust might billow a bit or the shoulders might slide, now instead, this dress fits like a dream.

Outfit of the Day: Two Trashy Divas and Collectif

Hello Kittens

Once again, I'm here playing catch up on my Outfit of the Days. I was almost all caught up too!

Outfit of the Day (Saturday, three weeks ago):

A couple of weekends ago, I wore this Trashy Diva Sweetie dress in Ruffled Feathers. Though I don't really celebrate, I picked this dress to wear because it was Lunar New Years and this is the year of the rooster :D. Tim and I went out to breakfast and then ran a couple errands for the day. I paired this with a Sweetie sweater by Heart of Haute which I was lucky and snagged during a sale on sale a few months ago. :) I also paired this with Miss L Fire Maraschino pumps which I also got on sale at Zulily back during the Summer. For a finishing touch I wore a pair of red stud earrings which I got a while ago from a local retro shop, Vintage Alley, and to keep warm, wore my trusty red toggle coat from Target from years ago.

Outfit of the Day (Saturday, two weeks ago):

The next weekend I went out with a friend wine tasting. I decided to wear my Trashy Diva Streetcar dress in Forget Me Not Floral. I paired this is my red Sweetie cardigan from Heart of Haute (again), brown sweater tights from Target from a few years ago, and a pair of red Miz Mooz t-strap wedges which I got a few years ago from Zappos. For a finishing touch I wore this with a red beret from ebay which I got a few months ago, red floral stud earrings, and an Erstwilder brooch which I got as a present from a friend a few months ago.

Outfit of the Day (Sunday, two weeks ago):

Tim and I went for a walk around the lake. I've been hiking a lot lately and have been trying to work on a style where I still feel like myself but which is a bit more casual than my usual weekend looks. Thank goodness for vintage reproduction companies like Collectif! While almost everything I am wearing here (at least the main pieces) are Collectif, I actually owe this outfit to CiCi at www.cici-marie.com/ She has reviewed both this plaid top and these pants on her blog in the past which has alerted me to their merits. :) I am a big fan of this blog and love the outfits she comes up with! You should check it out if it's not already on your radar. Anyhow, the top is Collectif's mainline cheyenne tai tartan gab jacket which I grabbed on sale a few weeks ago while the pants are Collectif's Rebel Kate Denim Jeans which I was super lucky and found on ebay for a great price several months ago. I wore this with a striped shirt which I got from Target about a year ago and a pair of red Vans. To finish off this look, I wore this with a red belt I took off of one of my Hell Bunny dresses.

Til we see each other again friends! <3

Outfit of the Day: Catching up on January OOTDs

Hello Kittens!

Color me a bit distracted these last couple weeks. While it seems I'm always trying to catch up on my blog reading list and reading all your lovely blogs out there these days, I've also been struggling to keep up with a semblance of a blog schedule for myself. Not to kick myself about it or to reprimand myself over it or anything. After all, my motto of sorts especially when it comes to blogging is, do what you want :)

Anyhow, here are a few Outfit of the Days from January!

Outfit of the Day (first weekend of January):

I wish I could properly remember what I did this day while wearing this pretty outfit but alas, it was so far back it escapes me! I think we were out running errands this day. Maybe went out for breakfast? I remember being so proud of my cleverness though because my tights were actually double layered, a sheer white dot tight on top of a nude fishnet tight... My thick sweater tights were in the wash so I had to improvise. For this outfit I also wore my Trashy Diva Streetcar dress in Irish Polka, a vintage cream colored cardigan I got from Etsy a few months back, and forest green and cream B.A.I.T. Ida heels I got a couple years ago.

Outfit of the Day (second weekend of January):

Tim and I are basically mall rats. While I don't dress like I live at the mall, we do often like to go there and hang out. He likes to go into Spencer's and Vans, and I like to get pretzels and check out what's at Hot Topic, Forever 21 and scope through Nordstrom as we walk through. Anyhow, this day was another trip to the mall. We went out to lunch and did our usual haunts that day. It was rainy and dreary and I felt nice and cozy in my Trashy Diva knit Jenny, a vintage Ethel of Beverly Hills cardigan which I got from Etsy a couple years ago, brown sweater tights from Target from last year, a cozy animal print beret from Modcloth from last year, and a pair of basic black flats.

Outfit of the Day (third weekend of January):

On this day, I met up with some friends from college. We usually try and meet up at least once a year to catch up and stay in touch. However, this time around somehow we let two years pass! Anyhow, we met up over burgers and boozy milkshakes at a new restaurant called Broderick's in Walnut Creek. The food was great, the drink were fun, but the company was the best! It was another coldish and wetish day though not as cold or wet as I was expecting. In any case though, I was just not in the mood to don on a dress so I got out my fun wide leg Lorenza trousers from Collectif which I got from Modcloth a few years ago. I paired this with a sweater blouse by Darling which I also got from Modcloth a few years ago. For funsies I also wore this with a pair of black and white B.A.I.T. Idas (though you can't see them well in the pics) which I also got a few years ago. To keep warm I also wore a black cardigan (old) and a knit cap Tommy Hilfiger hat which I got from Nordstrom Rack a few years ago. And though it's not pictured, to get me from the car to restaurant, I also wore my trusty red toggle wool coat from Target also from several years ago.
